Shamil Bank, a leading Bahrain-based Islamic commercial and investment bank and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ithmaar Bank, lent its financial support to a nation-wide fund raising campaign in support of the people of Gaza.
The Campaign is being spearheaded by the National Committee in Support of the Palestinians in Gaza that was established on the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa, and led by Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) Chairman, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shamil Bank’s BD 100,000 support for the Campaign was presented to the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Committee in Support of the Palestinians in Gaza and Secretary General of the RCO, Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed, by the Shamil Bank Chief Executive, Faisal Alalwan. Also present were Shamil Deputy Chief Executive and Ithmaar Bank Chief Operating Officer, Ahmed Abdul Rahim and RCO Assistant Secretary General for Planning and Charity Resource Development, Saeed Hussain Abdulrahman.
“Some of the projects proposed by the committee for Gaza include a workshop to make artificial limbs, a health centre and a school,” said Dr. Al Sayed. “Other initiatives include the construction of laboratories at a Gaza university and a mosque – and Shamil Bank’s support will help translate these plans into reality and reduce the suffering of the people of Gaza,” he said.
“The Campaign, which began in January after the fighting broke out in Gaza, has been extremely successful,” said Dr. Al Sayed. “This latest support package from Shamil Bank comes at a perfect time and will help keep the momentum going,” he said.
“The people of Shamil Bank and Ithmaar banking group, like many around the world, feel a strong sense of solidarity with the people of Gaza. They are in our thoughts and in our prayers – particularly during these difficult, dangerous times,” said Alalwaan. “Our financial support for Bahrain’s fund-raising campaign for the people of Gaza is only a natural extension of this solidarity,” he said.
“We are privileged to be able to help reconstruct Gaza’s infrastructure and to be able to contribute, even in a small way, to improving the quality of life for its people,” said Alalwaan. “The National Committee in Support of the Palestinians in Gaza has been managing this nation-wide campaign with particularly high levels of transparency and professionalism. Their efforts have made it possible for us to be able to help the people of Gaza and, for that, we are indeed grateful,” he said.
